The profit calculator shows how much you’ll make or lose on a trade from the open price, close price, direction and lot size. Use it to see your take profit and stop loss in money before entering, or to check the result of a closed trade. It works for currency pairs, gold, silver, oil, indices and crypto.
How to use the profit calculator
- Account currency — the result is shown in it.
- Direction — a buy profits when price rises, a sell when it falls.
- Instrument and lot. For currency pairs prices are filled in at the current rate; for other instruments enter prices from your terminal.
- Open and close price — your entry and the planned target, stop or actual exit.
Profit formula
Profit = (Close − Open) ÷ Pip size × Pip value of 1 lot × Lots
For a sell the sign flips: a falling price is a profit.
Example 1. Buy EUR/USD
Buy 0.1 lot at 1.0850, close at 1.0900: 50 pips × $1 = +$50.
Example 2. Sell gold
Sell 0.05 lot XAU/USD at $2,650, close at $2,630. Price fell $20 = 200 pips of 0.1. Pip value of 0.05 lot is $0.50. Profit = 200 × 0.5 = +$100.
Example 3. A losing oil trade
Buy 0.2 lot WTI at $70.50, close at $69.80: −70 pips × $2 = −$140.
What the calculation leaves out
The calculator shows the result of the price move. Your broker’s figure will differ slightly because of:
- spread — the gap between bid and ask (you always enter slightly worse);
- commission — charged per lot on ECN accounts;
- swap — overnight interest credited or charged.
Consistent profit depends not on one trade but on the ratio of average target to average stop and on your win rate — that’s what the risk/reward calculator shows.
Same lot, different instruments
| Instrument, 0.1 lot | Move | Result |
|---|---|---|
| EUR/USD | 50 pips (0.0050) | $50 |
| GBP/USD | 100 pips (0.0100) | $100 |
| XAU/USD | $10 (100 pips) | $100 |
| WTI | $1 (100 pips) | $100 |
| US500 | 50 index points | $5 |
The same lot means very different risk on different instruments. Size your trades from the amount you’re willing to lose with the lot size calculator.
FAQ
How do I calculate forex profit?
Divide the price difference by the pip size and multiply by the pip value for your lot. The calculator does it instantly and converts the result into your account currency.
Why is my broker’s profit a bit lower?
Spread, commission and swap. The calculator shows the pure price move between two levels.
Can I calculate the loss at my stop?
Yes: enter the stop price as the close price. The result is shown with a minus sign.
Does it work for cent accounts?
Yes, choose USC — the result is in cents for a size in cent lots.
