The pip value calculator shows how much money a one-pip move makes or costs at your trade size. Pick an instrument, a lot size and your account currency — the calculator converts the pip value at the current exchange rate. It works for currency pairs (including crosses and JPY pairs), gold, silver, oil, indices and crypto.
How to use the pip calculator
- Account currency — USD, EUR, GBP, RUB or a cent account (USC). The pip value is converted into this currency.
- Instrument — the line under the list shows the contract size and what counts as a pip.
- Lot — trade size. 1 is a standard lot, 0.1 a mini lot, 0.01 a micro lot.
- Number of pips — for example the distance to your stop or target. The calculator shows what it is worth in money.
Pip value formula
Pip value = Pip size × Contract size (units) × Lots — in the quote currency (the second currency of the pair). If the quote currency differs from your account currency, the result is converted at the current rate.
Example 1. EUR/USD, 0.1 lot
0.0001 × 100,000 × 0.1 = $1 per pip. A 50-pip move is $50. For every pair quoted in USD (GBP/USD, AUD/USD, NZD/USD) one pip of 1 lot is always $10.
Example 2. USD/JPY, 1 lot
0.01 × 100,000 = ¥1,000. At 150 that is 1,000 ÷ 150 ≈ $6.67. When the yen weakens, the dollar pip value falls — which is why the calculator uses the live rate.
Example 3. Gold XAU/USD, 0.05 lot
Contract of 100 oz, pip $0.1: 0.1 × 100 × 0.05 = $0.50. A $10 move in gold (100 pips) is $50.
Pip value table
Typical values (your broker’s contracts for metals, indices and crypto may differ):
| Instrument | Pip | 1 lot | 0.1 lot | 0.01 lot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD | 0.0001 | $10 | $1 | $0.10 |
| USD/JPY (at 150) | 0.01 | ≈ $6.67 | ≈ $0.67 | ≈ $0.07 |
| USD/CHF, USD/CAD | 0.0001 | ≈ $7–13 | ≈ $0.7–1.3 | ≈ $0.07–0.13 |
| XAU/USD (100 oz) | 0.1 | $10 | $1 | $0.10 |
| XAG/USD (5,000 oz) | 0.01 | $50 | $5 | $0.50 |
| WTI, Brent (1,000 bbl) | 0.01 | $10 | $1 | $0.10 |
| US500, NAS100, US30 | 1 | $1 | $0.10 | $0.01 |
Pips vs points in MetaTrader
A classic pip is the fourth decimal (0.0001), or the second for JPY pairs (0.01). Brokers with 5-digit quotes also show a fifth decimal, and MetaTrader calls that a “point” (0.00001). So a 300-point stop in the terminal is 30 pips here.
You need the pip value for two things: to see the loss at your stop in advance and to choose the right size. The second is easier in the lot size calculator, which sizes the trade from a risk percentage.
Pip value inside MetaTrader
To skip switching between the terminal and the browser, use the free S4U Trade Panel for MT4 and MT5: it shows the pip value and calculates the lot by risk right on the chart. Get it from our Telegram bot — see the block under the calculator.
FAQ
How much is 1 pip on 0.01 lot?
For pairs quoted in USD (EUR/USD, GBP/USD) it is $0.10. For gold with a 100 oz contract it is also $0.10 per $0.1 move. For USD/JPY about $0.07.
Why does the pip value change?
When the quote currency is not your account currency, the pip value is converted at the exchange rate. EUR/USD on a USD account is fixed at $10 per lot, while USD/JPY, USD/CAD and crosses move with the price.
How do I calculate pip value on a cent account?
Choose USC as the account currency. The numbers are the same as for a dollar account, but in cents: one pip of 1 cent lot on EUR/USD is 10 cents.
Does it include spread and commission?
No, it shows the pure value of the price move. Multiply the spread in pips by the pip value to get the cost of entering the trade.
